About Grammar-Us

Claudia Khan is the pen behind Grammar-Us Communications. A published author with more than 30 years’ experience, Claudia is a self-confessed “word nerd.”  She learned to read at an early age and quickly fell in love with the English language and the power of the written word.  “I’m probably one of the few people on the planet who actually enjoyed diagramming sentences in English class,” she jokes.

Claudia served as Editor-In-Chief of her college literary anthology for two years.  At the same time, she honed her writing skills through a variety of projects, which included poetry, short stories and a self-published nonfiction book.

As part of her duties during her 31-year tenure in the legal department of a major international cosmetics company, Claudia was responsible for proofreading and editing virtually every piece of literature, audiovisual media and Web-based communications disseminated to the company’s independent sales force, employees and the general public.  She was affectionately known as “The Purple Pen,” because of her signature use of that color when she made her proofreading notations.

Claudia also was Contributing Editor for the company’s employee newsletter, and her human interest stories were always highly anticipated features of that quarterly publication.  Additionally, she penned numerous articles on legal issues for both the independent sales force and employees.  The legal guidelines manual that she wrote for the independent sales force is still being used today, more than 25 years after it was first written, and it has been translated into several languages and distributed to over 1.5 million independent sales force members in 30 countries worldwide.  In addition, Claudia wrote the company’s original “Code of Ethics” manual for employees.

After retiring in 2012, Claudia became the designated “go-to” person for friends and family members needing help with their writing projects. “I also found myself with more time to watch TV and connect with internet-based media,” she says, “And what I found, in terms of the mangling of the English language, appalled me!”

For this reason, she has decided to start her own website and blog, offering tips and tricks for better grammar and writing skills, as well as editing, proofreading and ghostwriting services for those who seek her guidance and expertise. She explains, “I hope to educate, in a fun way, and to show people how they can be more effective through better communication.”

Claudia holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (cum laude) in English from the University of Texas at Dallas and a Legal Assistant Certificate from Southern Methodist University.
